Hi folks,

We are looking at buying another trawler for retirement (sold our old American Tug 34 a few years back). We have an angle on a Custom 39' Trawler that was first commissioned in 2019 after a long build here in Vancouver. It looks very well put together, but it is powered by a 1995 Cummins 6BTA 5.9 M2 that we understand was stored for years in the original factory crate and only powered up for the first time in 2019. I am assured it runs fine, and I will be getting a mechanical inspection done, pre-purchase, but wondered if there were any things I should be particularly concerned with with an engine that vintage stored for a long time? I am assuming seals may be degraded and oil leaks my become an issue. Any pointers much appreciated.

Cheers
Bernie

I’d replace the hoses, impeller and belt, but as long as the motor was not subjected to harsh conditions in storage, I wouldn’t worry much.
