Noticed this evening the front bilge indicator light sprung on...inspected and found a few inches of blue tinted water in front bilge? Pump is working steady, just wanted to ask what my next step should be... I'm not sure of the next steps in regards to alleviating the problem? Do I even have a problem? Complete novice asking for guidance 。◕‿◕。-Thomas

Your first step is to determine if the float switch is functioning correctly. The second thing is to replace all those wire nuts with crimp connectors.

You now know that the previous owner did sub par work and you have a lot of deferred maintenance on your hands.

Absolutely wire nuts have no place on a boat. Get some proper crimp connectors and a ratcheting crimper and then learn how to use it. Replace any wire nuts, especially in the bilge, with proper crimp connectors.

Most likely toilet cleaner bottle sprung a leak.

Is the pump running with the float switch as pictured? If yes, replace float switch.

Pictures show some issues but no blue fluid, implying despite comments on the wiring, the bilge pump has done its job and removed the liquid. Suggesting the pump is working as intended. I loathe those "flipper" switches, they gunk up, stick, don`t work, all variety of reasons to replace with something like a Johnson Ultima solid state type with no external moving parts when redoing the wiring connections.

Excellent 👌 advice friends. Definitely going to be checking around looking for other possible wire nut connections and replacing them. Also thanks for the knowledge on the solid state switch, didn't know it existed.
All the best from FL -Tom

Greetings,
Mr./Ms. A. Welcome aboard. Agree with Mr. t (post #2)...deferred maintenance. Appears to be LOTS of it just from the pictures you have posted.

Rubber hose (pic. #3) appears to be de-laminating at hose clamp, all hose clamps are of the "perforated" type and rusty, bilge is quite dirty (potential for "stuff" jamming either pump or float switch).

Suggest a regime of hose replacement starting with those that connect to below water fittings/thru-hulls. Replacement of all hose clamps with solid (AWAB) type and double clamps on critical fittings. Good cleaning of bilge with disposal of contaminated water ashore.

Ain't boating fun???
