I have an ancient EZ-1000 drum winch.

It has worked fine up until this pass spring. I rebuilt it this summer but it has malfunctioned again and I have decided to replace it. I am considering an EZ-Anchor Puller Rebel 4.

However, before I sell off one of my kidneys to pay for the Rebel 4 I thought I would find out if anyone has had any experience with the Chinese anchor drum winches.

I am looking at a 1000W Freefall Boat Anchor Drum Winch sold by Gibson Boat RV Supply in Florida. Gilson sells on eBay, Amazon and Bonanza. Price is about a $1000 less then the Rebel 4.

I’ve got no experience with either winch, but I have to say, the rebel looks better constructed. The off side bearing housing is better made, and likely has higher capacity bearings. Not to mention the all stainless housing of the motor and gearbox vs powder Box on the china model is likely powder coated aluminum.
Might be worth the extra grand.

Looks like many commercial winches. You might check them out. Usually they come electric or hydraulic. If you can run lines, the hydraulic ones run decades with little maintenance. Some used with a 12v power pack like used on utility truck booms.
Some places that build winches also rebuild other brands and could make yours more reliable. You have almost all the pieces now.
