Wouldn't one of the problems be that most diesel marine fueling nozzles don't have the air sense port in the nozzle?
Recommendations for marina fuel stations includes getting rid of non automatic pump shut offs.
About 20 years ago, I filled up at the Salt Ponds Marina in Hampton.
I was inexperienced with marina fuel pumps, being new to using marina fuel pumps. And the nozzle was huge looking compared to gas stations on land.
The attendant hands me the pump nozzle and I start filling the tank.
So I clicked on the pump nozzle. And it never clicked off after the tank filled up.
See I made this assumption that a marina would use modern pump nozzles.
And I was so wrong. I was standing right there and had to click it off myself.
See, I was inexperienced and careless making that decision cause it did not cross my mind they would allow such a thing.

Shut-Off Nozzles: To prevent overflow spills, install automatic back pressure shutoff nozzles on fuel pump discharge hoses. The nozzles automatically stop the flow of fuel into a boat’s fuel tank when sufficient reverse pressure is cre- ated by the full tank.
Nozzle Triggers: If automatic shut-offs are not used, then remove fuel nozzle triggers that are used to hold the nozzle open without being held. Nozzles can be purchased through the fuel companies that service your pumps. Prohibit the use of cans or other items to prop the trigger open, especially on large boats with big fuel tanks.
So that fancy marina failed both of these, and I never filled up there again.
