Xs - ugly reminder of a cowhand jumping to ground from the top of cattle truck end gates (proper name for "stake" sides. I was a kid, but guess the top was 11-12 feet above ground. The end gates we're assembled with, maybe, 1/4 - 20 bolts with a 1/4" of thread extending past the nut.
Yep, his wedding band caught the bolt and pulled his finger off at the first socket. My father directed me to climb up and recover finger & ring. I was 10-11. Later, as an adult and a Navy NCO, I asked him why he did that.
Response: "Bet you don't wear jewelry around equipment, do you? Also bet you don't let people who work for you wear that stuff." He was correct on both counts.
