Very typical system for a wood fired tub, not just on boats. It’s called a snorkel stove...or, “Scuba” is a trademark style of a snorkel stove. The short version of it is, the air intake and top loading stove door are above water while the burning chamber is below to transfer heat to the water. I doubt you can use it while underway with any amount of sea-induced motion, not unless you drain the water level a bit to preclude any water sloshing into the top of the chamber.

Ex-British Columbia Forest Service boats have been mentioned a few times in this thread, the supposed largest one in the fleet is for sale in Washington state. Pretty. With a Cat D353 - and a bow thruster now

As far as I know, "all the "sir Winstons" were built for a customer who put them in dinner service and put the latest one up for sale and had another being built. They are always advertised in the yellow sheets.....Not sure who the actual builder is.

There are states where laws are more lax for things done on boats than on land. Casinos in LA and riverboat gambling in general come to mind.... hence this sort of stuff. ALL it has to do is float and occasionally relocate on a flat weather day with a reasonable chance of not capsizing. Often they are tied up with permanent utilities and don't go anywhere.

Saw this on Seattle Craigslist. Would have jumped (or at least checked it out) at this when I was a younger man. Just pressure washing would increase the value by 10 grand

We spent a few nights in Port Madison WA in August. This boat is anchored way back in the bay. On the outside it looks worse than the photos, but I was surprised at the interior shots. Could be a rotten-wall nightmare or could be a diamond in the (real) rough. I wonder how a prospective buyer would get it to a yard/lift for a survey. The rest of the interior looked amazingly clean. I wonder how it smells. At $25k-$30k with a decent survey this could be a good deal if restoration could be kept under $60k-$70k.

seems pricey for a gasser. Engine room looks like its unmaintained. I didn't realize these boats had v gears.

I agree and I knew they came with gassers but I thought they were all straight inboards. I thought it was interesting. Not worth it to me but maybe somebody.

For the size vessel she is, that's quite the...radar mast? I'm not sure that term is sufficient to describe the installation up top.

The contract is inked, we go to hull and mechanical survey next week. I've had two life long boat professionals check it out, and they assure me it's as good as it looks. Has had amazing care/upgrades. I'll keep you posted.
