I just bought a '72 Gulfstar trawler. It has a Kohler generator, model #4CC023.
It has two screw caps marked "oil" but neither has a dipstick attached, and I cannot find a dipstick anywhere else. Does anyone know how to check the oil level on this generator?

The dip stick appears prominently in the second picture. Under the foward edge of the lift pump just forward of the top of the oil filter

Circled in red.

Thanks and some questions

Thanks to both of you for the info. The pics are not my generator, just pics I found online for another of the same model. The way mine is installed it takes a bit of a contortionist to get to the dipstick, oil filter, etc. I'd like to change the oil in mine but have questions: 1. What type oil? 2. What type filtser (mine is a Fram but I couldn't get a number without unscrewing it)? 3. How much oil does it take? 4. My air filter looks very dirty, so what type of air filter? 5. Is there any place that I can get an operator's manual so I can get a maintenance schedule, etc. 5. Is there a source for parts if needed?

Again, thanks so much for the help. While I've been boating since the early 80's and doing most of my maintenance/repairs, this is the first diesel I've had. The good news, the original Ford Lehman was replaced with an American Diesel 6N140 (that only has 1500 hrs. on it) so info on that and parts are readily available through them.
