Hello TF mind hive.
I seek a day charter with Captain around the Rockland/Mid coast of Maine.I want some practical experience on the water before purchase of my loop vessel. I looked at Ellis Charter, but they are too far away.Plus I just motorcycled from Yarmouth NS, to The Cabot Trail and back to Port Clyde.

Any recommendations from knowledgeable folks?

Alternatively, I could be your deckhand for a day/days. I'm in Maple Juice Cove until August 11...

Charter follow up.

If you are considering having me onboard, I have open ocean experience sailing back in the '80's, with a rugby buddy of mine.I also belong to ABC and have done some nav, boat handling and radio classes. I have been lucky enough to sail in Auckland, NZ on an Americas Cup boat and work aboard USS George Washington as a cameraman.
Best,
Dennis

Might try a broad search internet style…
‘Charter a boat and Captain for X days near xxx.’

re- Charter

Thanks OD 1943,
That has been done. T Forum was my next option. Ellis Charters is a good option except for distance from me.

I guess you could make it a “master’s class” to include docking both ways, radio com, navigation, line handling (learn the magic of spring lines)

When all is aid and done, an oral and maybe a practical exam?

IF you have a spouse, a separate day or two for just she and the Captain on the boat. You can stand on the dock or in the dingy and take pictures of your boat underway.
She will need to develope confidence. If she doesn’t develop skil and knowledge, go out 12 miles and and and (splash)
