I just bought an old woodie GB32 that came with a fairly recent Webasto heater (not on the boat right now and can't recollect the model number but it is fairly modern). The heater will not start up (blinking error code 1 which is the most generic, "something's wrong"). It is in a devilishly inaccessible location so I'm going to tackle more urgent fixit tasks first before moving batteries to get at it.
But I wanted to ask, in general are Webastos temperamental? Is there a "most obvious" thing to check when you get a generic error code like 01?
The fuel pickoff (tiny tiny little tubing) for the Webasto is a tee just after the fuel filter, which suggests to me that when the engine's running there may be suction from the engine fuel pump trying to pull the fuel back out of the heater line. could this create an airlock and if so, is there a manual priming mechanism of any kind on the furnace (if I could get near it)?
Any general comments on Webastos, care and feeding of, would be much appreciated. I was hoping to extend my season a bit by moving "to the dark side" (sailboat to motor boat) but without a furnace this is not going to be practical. So I'd like to get it fixed.
