props for 38LRC

Californian 38 LRC
We recently purchased a Californian 38. It has (nearly) new Yanmar 110 hp diesels. Currently it has 3 bladed props that need to be replaced next haul out. On the boat we found two brand new 4 bladed props. How do we find out which are the right props for our engines?
 
Both could be right but have different uses.The ski boat I used to run had two props.One was for the hole shot and the other was for cruising.

I'm sure you aleady know, your boat probably had 6.354 perkins, either 130 or 185 HP. Standard would of been three bladed probably 22x20 or there abouts. A lot of people changed out their three bladed for four bladed at some point. But with the replacement non standard engines it is kind of a crap shoot what the correct pitch is going to be? With 110 horsepower engines, you're probably an 8 - 10 knot boat now. Most of the major prop shops have formulas for determining the correct conversion from three blade to four.

Are your old props eaten up, not the right pitch or you just want to switch to four bladed. If they just need straightening, chips fixed or repitching you don't need to replace them, just have them worked over.

There are a couple of good shops in Seattle and I have used them both with good results.

Yes, the old props are eaten up a bit. We did know we could have them fixed, just wondered if the 4 bladed were what should be on there. Thanks for the prop shop names- that is great information! We are so new to this (we've had boats before, but not this big and not twin diesels).
Is there a set of specifications for the Californian 38 available anywhere?

Understood. We all started out with something a bit smaller and worked our way up. You will find a lot of good information on this forum and some maybe not so good. So if it seems questionable.. . . . it probably is :angel:

Most of the Californian owners (and there are quite a few here) who post can provide you with their experiences and offer you help specific to this style of boat. Capt Craig and Flywright are always good to talk to and even though they own our little brother 34' they come up with some good information from time to time. Look at Capt Craig's post "Californian owners manual and technical drawings" down the Californian page a ways. These are invaluable manuals and information, which you may not find anywhere else. Be sure and print them off and save for future reference.
