The venerable Ed Monk designed Marine Trader / CHB / Sea Chief 34, a 1976, also known as a poor man's Grand Banks 36.
Happy with the design but not the*construction,*so recored the decks, recored a good portion of*the*house, then*basically built a new*outer shell of fiberglass over the old boat.* Replaced huge amounts of rotted balsa and substandard Marine Plywood the original builders used.
Reinforced, strengthend, and improved where I could.*
Rewired and replumbed most everything.
Being in the Midwest, and getting ready for winter,*planning to***replace the fuel tanks and recore the transom next year and then I'll be ready to hit the water again after four years of restoration (prospective buyers of older Taiwanese trawlers take note -- this is what it takes)
If you've got questions about doing major structural replairs on old Taiwanese tubs*using convential*amatuer tools I'll be happy to help if I can, there isn't much I haven't been into in one way or another.
This picture is from before I started, right now the boat's pretty darn ugly, with multiple colors of fiberglass filler....
