I completely understand your pain. I am a big old guy with a lot of back issues. I am sitting with ice on my back right now. Unfortunately without some photos I can’t make any recommendations. But take a bunch of photos of the area, the current support for the hatch that is there and any other photos you can get. Then we can probably help with some ideas on how you can proceed.

On a boat long long ago I had a friends 8 year old son get to an area that wasn’t possible for me and hold a wrench on a couple of nuts. Worked well.
