    is a GFIC a GFIC?

Honestly we always called them GFI's. These issues give me PTS...or is it PTSD? wait...PSTD? STD? DTS?

    is a GFIC a GFIC?

will any Home Depot-ish GFIC do for the cabin spaces? Marinco has some fancy ones. Necessary? mildly recommended? Strongly recommended?

Name the one thing you dislike about your boat

Instead of a new thread, I was wondering if anyone here has or had a faux smoke stack. I've seen them on Willards and Tugs. I actually convinced my friend to remove his from his Willard. Obviously I'm not a fan.

Microlog AC panel for simple shorepower solution

It's the type of store where you discover things you didn't know existed but that you MUST have. Rutheless bastards they are!

Microlog AC panel for simple shorepower solution

I like Blue Sea but it doesn't have the double ganged breaker and seems to also lack a neutral bus bar.

Microlog AC panel for simple shorepower solution

I want to a run my 60 watt minifrig and 6amp Marinco charger so need to hook up to the pedestal (told myself I'd never do that). So for a simple panel, instead of BlueSea'ing or Seadogging it, I thought this looked cool. Any horror stories...

How to Dock a Boat Correctly

Today Harbor Patrol was on my facedock. Twin OB's. 28'ish. He was situated with the preferable bow upwind, he was cool as cucumber, but it took him longer than I would've guessed considering his skill level/twin props to jigger his way out so he could leave bow first into the fairway. And that...

Name the one thing you dislike about your boat

Exactly my concern as well. First thing I did when I bought her was stencile Forward and Reverse. For my sake and in case someone other than myself operates her. see the pic it's mechanical linkage. I haven't even looked at the feasability yet. I do know that these things can be easy or next to...

How to Dock a Boat Correctly

Quick story and dumb plan that might be necessary in the short term. Story: Yesterday I watched a beautiful trawler do an effortless 180 in my fairway to drop off two passengers. I was extremely envious. Life felt totally unfair in that moment. As the trawler motored off the two passengers...

Our offer Got accepted! Now what? ‘73 GB 42 Europa

I've owned wooden boats and they are fraught! They're beautiful but Beware! A lot of surveryors won't even do a wood boat survey. Many marinas don't allow them. I had a wooden sailboat and when I put it up for sale the office said they wouldn't allow the new owner to keep the boat there. I had...

    Strangers getting on my boat

I wouldn't want a stranger on my boat. Posing for a pic without touching is okay though I'm not crazy about a pic that would include registration info. The one that infuriates me is or was the largely tolerated practice of "borrowing" your dinghy from the dock to get back to your mooring. This...

How to Dock a Boat Correctly

None. Just push the bow off the dock with your foot. Boat only weighs about 11,000 lbs. It'll drift to 90 degrees. Easy. When the wind picks up, and it does every day, different story.

Name the one thing you dislike about your boat

I have a 20 year old 28hp nonturbo volvo. No smoke, no leaks, spotless, runs like a top. Previous owner just did basics, oil changes, flushed out after use. I've talked to a few commercial guys about Volvos, their only complaint was parts are pricier. Take care of it and it'll take care of you.

How to Dock a Boat Correctly

Thanks for the advice. I'm slightly confused by the hand-line suggestion. Basically do a tied off 180 degree flip along the dock? Would the line from starboard bow attach to the cleat as indicated in the picture? I drew the suggested dock line in RED and also showed the new suggested position of...

How to Dock a Boat Correctly

I worked for an agency that had a fleet of several hundred diesel trucks. The factory engineers always said engines last longer and run better and more reliably if you wait until they're warm before placing a load on them. Our fleet was mainly Cummins and Detroits. 8-71s and a comaparable...

How to Dock a Boat Correctly

I have a 28hp diesel, I let it warm to operating temp at high idle. Takes about 15 minutes. Plenty of prep to do on the boat before shoving off that easily consumes that 15 minutes.

How to Dock a Boat Correctly

Yes, I've seen people do the dink as tugboat thing with great results. Seems to be the ultimate cheat. Not only the gasoline powered thrusting, but the two articulating grabber arms with opposable thumbs controlled by a CPU engineered to respond to voice command and lastly, the ability of the...
