How big a boat do I need to do the Inside Passage - Surprise!

A schedule can be the most hazardous thing about boating. So true, and can be a killjoy too. Curve of Time - That book got me interested into the idea of cruising/exploring points of interest along the inside passage

    Inside Passage Butedale update

Thanks for replying back. Appreciated! The questions: Why? - to explore, walk the beaches, beachcomb, Is it open? - it’s a park, and Covid had it closed I think. Specific area? - Area around - mostly Calvert, as I don’t think the institute normally allows visitors (but it should imho)...

    Are parallel batteries worthwhile?

I like extra capacity for the starter bank. No start, and I ain't goin home! If I encounter hard starting, at least I have several go rounds before the battery is drained. My starter bank is 2x 27s. One 27 can start my AD41B under normal circumstances. House bank is 2x 6V in series - and...

Dual action, random orbital sander recommendation

Big Air Compressor - need high CFM - 17+ 3M Random Orbital Sander - Elite Series 28561, Air-Powered, Central Vacuum, 5 Inch, 3/8" Orbit Good old Dyson - small capacity means frequent emptys - but wow does it ever suck compared to any other vacuum I've owned.... Good sucking means...

    Prince Rupert to Ketchikan

Lots of great input. In terms of trip permutations , another possibility would be to launch at Gingolx, aka Kincolith. You would miss out on the Prince Rupert Harbour experience (Lattes and deserts at Cowpuchinos ), but you would drive through the scenic Nass Valley, and...

    In hull depth finder recommendation

I have a Garmin with a Airmar thru-hull transducer , but also a Raymarine WiFish, external transducer mounted “in-hull” using only toilet wax-ring wax. Works good enough, but shooting through 1/2” of solid fibreglass doesn’t get the depth of the thru-hull. Higher boat velocity also is a...

    Anyone not rename their boat?

Second Wind just didn’t resonate with me. Not a sailboat, and not particularly original, and its on the top ten list of most common boat names. Henceforth, my vessel shall be known as “The Vessel Formerly Known As Second Wind”, aka TVFKASW. Wizard shall be stencilled on at some point...

Any BC trawler forum folks are doing the inside passage this summer?

It's happened again. Boat meets rock in Prevost

The picture you attached says it all. The rocks aren't anywhere near what I would call the traffic lane. I find it odd that in both groundings, both boats were no where near the center of the channel. Typically, I keep my boat in the middle of a narrow waterway.

    Show me your windlass setup

Agreed with the above quote. The rope/chain must be allowed to fall straight down through a smooth, straight pipe of sufficient diameter for a hassle free windlass set-up. Relocate either the windlass or the hole, or both, so that they are properly aligned.

    Diesel Air Filters

K&N filters are most certainly not oiled burlap. K&N uses cotton. While the focus is high flow, they still filter (and flow) well, even when dirty. The re-usability is a big plus. BTW, burlap is (usually) made from jute fibers. I use a standard automotive paper filter on my AD41B, but would...

    The 36th Americas Cup

This could be directed to Ineos Team UK. The Italian boat points higher upwind, and has probably a 2 knot speed advantage downwind. Sir Ben needs to win each start just to give the Brits a chance, but they are getting schooled. Mistakes are costly. And again, the Italians have made less...
