Looking to purchase a 1980s trawler

I have a 1979 GB 36 with teak off the main decks and newer fuel tanks. New fly bridge enclosure. Large solar panel over aft cabin. 8kw genset, single120 Lehmann. Bow thruster. Foot switch windlass. Starboard side only salon door. Singlehanded up from Marathon to Crisfield via Lake O. New Garmin...

    GB - Ventilation

On ours there is a solar fan on forward hatch that pulls air out. And while not "daisy fresh", there is enough air that comes in from the aft cabin companion way even with a canvas cover on it.

1983 34' Marine Trader DC following seas and steadying sail

Good morning. In my experience with full keel sailboats and semi/full displacement power boats, in a following sea, as the stern lifts the bow digs in and the boat wants to round up. Meaning the boat will veer sharply either port or starboard as the wave passes under the boat. If you anticipate...

Our old school Grand Banks 36 is in your price point. Currently liquidating to move to Belize.

Don agree with you wholeheartedly. This situation is fubar. Any half wit accident attorney would have a field day with the investigation timeliness. Hope you come out good.

    Collision and demasting

I for one would like to know why the USCG would accept a statement from someone that was not on scene as opposed to the crew that was. Sounds to me that the trawler crew has something to hide. Granted there was no loss of life or serious bodily injury, but sounds like an incomplete and biased...

Bingo. Trawlers, from what I have seen, lower their booms as soon as there is room. So essentially out the inlet and lower the booms. They are not trawling so no lights except nav lights. No nets deployed so running to get to their grounds. Minimal watch as most crew are resting for work ahead...

Wife and I have been going to Crescent Beach during that time for the last 5 years except for this year when we were there 10 days prior. We stay at the Beachers Lodge just south of the 206 Bridge on the beach. We always stay on the top/4th floor. I always take binoculars. Watch the traffic...

I would use the 14mm. I would also tighten the 2 nuts equally. ie. 1/4 turn on each.

    Piss Platform?

Looks like that platform could easily, if geared correctly, lower into the water and be a great landing to step up to the swim platform. The way it is mounted appears that a 270° range of movement possible.

    Inexperienced new guy seeking answers

Now that you have taken the Med off your list, and will be coastal cruising, I will second the purchase of a trawler. Whichever make you choose, I would recommend 40' range for 4 people. 36' would be too cramped IMHO. Single or twin? I prefer a single for ease of maintenance simply because I...

    AIS Pros & Cons?

Please don't mandate AIS transceivers. I am just moving out of the 18th century and getting used to chartplotters. I did stow my semaphore flags back in the '80's when I purchased a vhf radio. I have never had an autopilot though have installed quite a few back in the day. I just use a line...

    Inexperienced new guy seeking answers

My suggestion of Bluewater sail is based on the info given of wanting to make long open passages not coastal cruising. While I am "not quite right", I would not try to take my GB36 across to the Med.
