The Lehmans are old but they run forever. They do have a known problem with the number 6 cylinder overheating but it isn’t very common. The Lehman guru is Brian at American Diesel. He is very willing to give advice and is the go to for parts. 804-435-3107

If you are replacing the head I would seriously look at a Raritan Marine Elegance head. They are first rate and just work. As to hoses for the discharge I only use Raritan SaniFlex. They are extremely flexible and have a 10 warranty against smell permeation.

If he does actually have a bladder tank it may or may not be able to install a bubbler/aerator system. I don’t know if you can add fittings onto a bladder tank successfully or not. But an aerator system will get rid of the stink.

Can you tell if the windows are leaking at the weather stripping around the glass or at the fiberglass where they are caulked? If it is the caulking then the best thing to do is completely remove the windows, clean all the old caulk off and recaulk them. But don’t use any silicone based caulk...

When you are the captain you are responsible for everything board. You have to take that responsibility seriously, very seriously. Having someone on watch is required. If you want to take the job you have to be willing to assume the responsibility. And the consequences.

RT isn’t the only one…. I do not use silicone because if it starts to leak again you can’t get anything else to stick there. And trying to clean the silicone off is almost impossible.

They did a lot of stuff wrong so I don’t have much sympathy for him.

It depends on the engine. That is why I asked what engine are in the boat. On our last boat we had Lehmans. They have a bleed screw that you open while pumping to let the air out of the system.

That is why I would replace it with a quality plastic tank.

You can do it. Just make sure that you adequately support the cutout area, with lots of plywood, fiberglass and epoxy resin.
