I have been lucky enough so far and not broken the hydraulic hose off our rudder ram, so over the winter I built a wood step from 2x6 pine that covers the rudder equipment and autopilot sensor in our lazarette.

The time has come to select a paint. I plan to add some sand to the step surface for nonskid, but the rest will be just paint. My first trip to the paint aisle was dizzying. Is there an easy answer?

Our lazarette stays dry and dark. Other than periodic foot traffic on the top of the step, it should have a pretty easy life.

I use Bilge Kote for general below decks painting. Very tough.

I use an off the shelf porch paint for my bilge boards with or without a grit depending upon where it is going.

Second the Bilge Koat.
