Hi All,

We recently purchased a 32' Grand Banks and while I have a lot of experience sailing I am finding the transition to this type of boat to be more difficult than I imagined. I have watched a lot of youtube and read up on the threads here, but we're still struggling. I would like to hire someone who has experience with this type of boat to help my partner and myself learn to handle this vessel, mainly around the marina and docking. If you're in the Puget Sound area and would be willing to help us out or know someone who might please send me a private message. Our boat is in the Bremerton marina and we live in the Tacoma area.

Thanks in advance,
Zach

Jack and Mary DeFriel are located up in Kirkland and do training and familiarization. Yachtdeliveriesnw.com.

Definitely look for a training captain....any run of the mill licensed captain may not be a good instructor.

Usually the only way to find a good instructor captain is by word of mouth/personal recommendation you trust.

You may also want to ask for recommendations from the broker(s) you worked with on the purchase. I'm in the process of selling my boat and am remote to it, so have relied on the broker to supply a competent captain, which he has now on multiple occasions. I would share those names, but my boat is in Florida, so no help to you.

Zach, Hopefully you’ve found your Captain, but if not… John Friedrichsen is awesome! NWBoatingsvcs@gmail.com 925 260-5526. He is an excellent teacher and will be our escort captain in the coming weeks (as soon as a weather window opens) when we bring our ‘new to us’ 2006 American Tug from La Conner WA to Portland OR. I know you asked for a private message, but thought others may benefit from his services as well. He also recently helped us replace our Raymarine gear with Garmin.
Best, Chris

Another good resource is the Americas Boating Club, aka US Power Squadrons. The Bremerton Squadron probably could provide some good leads.

You might want to contact MTOA port captains in your area for recommendations.
