    Keeping seagulls off bimini

We tried many things and then settled in on a string of racing flags on each side and over the top. Worked very well for 25+ years in the NE...

    Motorbike on a trawler

We carried a couple of scooters for many years onboard and moved them with the davit and a couple of dinghies dependent upon where we were headed. If there is a good use for then its great to have them along.

Estimated annual cost to maintain a 40 ft boat

I had not seen any of these in LI sound, where might they be? The ones we are aware of have high initial buy ins, or monthly minimum spends, or higher contributions, or all of them.

    How to ID owner

They hit you and left? Did you hail them? Did you record any and all witnesses to the accident at that time? Did you report it to the dockmaster? Does the dock have security cameras that may have the event recorded? Call the USCG and have any of the above that are applicable handy for that call.

Ok, I’m convinced to putt along at Hull speed, but

On all of the twin engine boats we owned achieving hull speeds with one engine was quite easy at reasonable rpm. These boats all have been able to easily plane with two engines, so the props were appropriately aggressively pitched and loaded. I had made the charts below a long time back on one...

10 Common Buyers’ mistakes during Survey

This is more or less what we are used to as well. And this will often require weeks to schedule and complete without any unusual problems.

10 Common Buyers’ mistakes during Survey

] It means that this is unrealistic in our area for many years now.... "To my defense, I'll repeat what I said in the opening paragraph: I'd be fine with this process as a seller. Sure, it adds several days and perhaps an extra ride on the water, but I think it's a fair process." I have bought...

10 Common Buyers’ mistakes during Survey

"Given the discussion in this thread, I know there are folks who would not be comfortable with my due-diligence process and would kick my offer to the curb which is fine - no sense either of us losing brain cells. In my mind, I don't want to get stuck with a boat with surprises. I would hope...

10 Common Buyers’ mistakes during Survey

Ahead of time.... It would be important for any potential buyer and/or their agents to request permission from the seller for any inspections or tests which require any disassembly of machinery, removal of fluids, 'wrenching' of fasteners, disturbing permanent coverings, etc. Similarly, on any...

10 Common Buyers’ mistakes during Survey

"I have to say, I'm a bit surprised at how this has developed. This forum loves to talk about how these old engines will last forever. For some, sounds like that's only true if you baby them." I do not think everyone is referring to 'these old engines' as being the same.

10 Common Buyers’ mistakes during Survey

My thoughts are that full throttle tests for maybe 3 minutes are just fine for our higher output 4 stroke turbo diesels. A tach check is also required. If they are going to overheat or show problems 3 minutes is plenty and if you have pyros and boost gages all the better. I would also have no...

At the same speeds the fuel draw will be very similar - suggest you look at the current condition and ability to get parts and service for either engine in your desired use area.

    Laser rust remover getting affordable?

I would definitely find a place where you can test a part of your own that reasonably reflects the paints and rust that you are experiencing and need to remove. Based on this video ...the frequency they are running at and the material(s) being removed leaves concern for your application.

    Laser rust remover getting affordable?

I would strongly suggest that you take a small sample or similar piece you are attempting to clean and bring it to a place where you can test the time, skill, and effectiveness of any laser cleaning tools you are contemplating. Either get a free demo or rent the tool for the time required to...

    Laser rust remover getting affordable?

I have never used laser cleaning equipment for steel or marine applications but had used lasers extensively for many years ending about 10 years back. Unless there have been very large changes in this equipment you may want to ask about and/or expect these challenges....very small work area...
