The 3 wire 50A cords are still heavy. Mine are about 35 lbs each (50 foot cords). The 4 wire should be about 45 lbs. Neither is great to man-handle, but the 3 wire cords with storage bags are at least tolerable. The 30A cords are absolute featherweights in comparison (under 15 lbs for a 50 footer).
Are yours the 125V or 250V version? I'd have thought the 50A/125V version would also use slightly smaller wires inside? (Haven't searched for specs, and I've only seen one -- that I know of -- once, attached to a boat, sometime maybe 15 years ago or so.)
I know our 3-wire 50A/250V cordset is a bit lighter than a 4-wire we carry for an extension, but I wouldn't describe it as svelte...
