Installing Helm Seat

Head all the advice and DO NOT Screw the base into the fiberglass. It won't hold as my wife painfully learned on our 58 Hat MY. Commodave has a very good suggestion. In my case, we cut a piece of 1" exterior ply and epoxied it to the deck. Be sure to use acetone or lacquer thinner to remove any wax or oil. Then scuff the area with 80 grit or coarser for good mechanical adhesion. Drill pilot holes. Fill them with epoxy. Then screw the pedestal down with screws that fit the holes. Our pedestal was longer than yours. Survived some very rough passages.

Of course, the very best way is to through bolt if you can solve the problem of access.
