    Surveyor for RI

3208 Port engine still getting salt water into the coolant.

I'm not saying it's not happening, however it seems odd. TMK the closed cooling is at a much higher pressure than the raw water cooling. It has been my experience that if there are holes in the heat exchanger, the coolant tends to flow to the raw water cooling side, and out the exhaust. You...

Good Morning all, I am back again.

I don't have a Facebook account either, however if you follow the OP's link, then 'click' CLOSE when prompted to logon, you gain access to the ad as an anonymous user. @OP: IF you have another $100K above the purchase price, and the time and skills to restore this boat, then great. Know that...

Under insured in Florida and it's not right!

This is extremely naive. move to where? How? Have you ever travelled the length of the Florida eastern seaboard? Have you ever watched hurricane patterns? They all turn north and graze along Georgia, SC and NC. In most cases you'd be likely steaming TO the hurricane rather than away from...

    Return of Wanderlust

IF you live on a 58 foot flybridge cruiser, I can see how moving to a Mainship 350/390 or 34T would be a compromise. We live on ours for 6 months a year and find it fine. Could i use a seperate salon and Settee? yes, but other wise it is fine. The 34T is a newer, more expensive boat. The...

    Selling our boat questions

This is kind of a weird geo-centric generalization. We don't use attorneys for vessel P&S, closings, or escrows on the East Coast either. In fact, two of the last three real estate transactions I was involved used a Title company for escrow and closing as well. I've never used an attorney for...

    Selling our boat questions

I bought a boat in CT from a broker in FL. The seller used him for his access to Yachtworld and his escrow services. I contacted the broker who sent me directly to the seller. The showing, negotiation, survey and sea trial where handled between myself and the seller directly. I think the...

    Adding Ballast

I used bags of reclaimed lead shot. https://www.rotometals.com/lead-shot/ I placed mine in extra heavy-duty garbage bags to prevent water from leaching lead into the bilge.

    ONE bilge pump?

I have a bilge pump in each section that is separated by a bulkhead. So I have a Stern pump which is the largest. IT sits by my shaft and dripless shaft seal. Then a mid sized pump against the forward bulkhead in the engine compartment. Another in the forward bilge.

    Engine noise and diesel fumes?

I get slight diesel fumes if the wind is at my back and just slightly faster than the speed I'm travelling. You learn to tune out the noise.

Is there a difference between the Mainship 40 and the Mainship 400?

The Mainship 40 DC (Double Cabin), 40 Sedan Bridge and 400 Trawler are three very different boats from three different decades.

    Port battery box water

This sounds a bit like a generator question rather than a boat specific question. The title makes no sense in relation to the scope of the question. Is the challenge how to replace the pan? Or how to access the space??

    Curious, Cashiers or Certified check?

another vote for a Title and escrow company. They hold the title, they take the cash. They typically only accept wire transfers. They won't take cash, check, bank check or even an ACH transfer.

    Twin Diesels versus single

I find this situation to be amazingly rare and highly unlikely. At so much so that it necessitates 2 engines.

    Dumb Charging Question

I modified my 12V system so that I now have: Starting Bank: 1 x 4D (AGM) House Bank: 2 x 8D (AGM - Wired in parallel). Battery Charger: 50amp Charles 3 bank The house bank takes a LONG time to recharge. It gets to around 14.1 ~ 14.2 then trickles for a long time. Too long to run an 8K...

Looking for fly bridge step for monk two thousand one thirty six foot

I doubt it is available. Boats aren't like cars. They don't keep parts for 23 year old boats. The logistics to keep every part for every year, make model boat would be cost prohibitive. Especially durable parts like this that remain functional for decades. You should be able to fabricate...

    Highfield 310 issue

My guess is the dinghy is 5-10 years old and has spent a large portion of its life outside exposed to UV. This is the functional limit of of PVC tubes. The cost of hypalon is more expensive, but needs to be replaced much less often. Look at your ROI for hypalon in regards to initial cost...

    Twin Diesels versus single

Two of the dumbest statements repeated over and over: 1) I need two engines for redundancy. 2) I need speed to outrun storms. Incidentally, you're not 'out in the middle of the ocean' you're Coastal Cruising. Keep systems maintained. You're within towing distance.

    Teleflex controls not working

I've never seen Customer Sat. be a driver for MTTR (Meant Time to Resolution). I can tell you that there is the survey process and simply submitting a good word. The only thing that really bears weight is the customer survey. Also, most of us don't answer incoming calls. You have to come...

How often to start the engines?

My engine sits for 7 months a year never getting turned over. If you don't go out for months at a time, why both owning a boat at all? Why not get a houseboat built on a barge?? What is "something going wrong out there that tends to keep me at the dock"
