Not trying to be an alarmist... I too have seen pealing paint due to surface prep not having ample tooth/bite for finish coats.

I'm no paint expert... But, I would take caution of grit paper between coats. The grit numbers mentioned in last couple posts will surely be kept in my mind for the next time I paint to reach a really pretty and lasting finish.

Happy Paint Daze! - Art :speed boat:

I’m not an expert either and that’s why I’ll follow the manufactures recommendations :).

Greetings,
Mr. H. Gee whiz...from your first picture I thought you were putting in a well, er..um...I guess I was in error. Looks good in any case.

Many different types.
Awlgrip
Jotun
Wattyl
Ppg
Ameron

The one in the pic was awlgrip primer and ameron topcoat.

Ooo nice. I’d like to have used Awlgrip topcoat but too pricey for me unfortunately so went with jotun xtreme gloss.

Today we prepped and sprayed the aft cockpit as well as a couple of internal doors. Next week I’ll do some wet and dry blocking and machine polishing to flatten out some peel but I’m 90% happy with the off the gun finish.

Been working on modifying my bowrail. Wasn’t happy with the first attempt so I’ve added a 38mm toprail that cuts through the 22mm existing pipe work and forms a leg as well as adding some extra 22mm legs and intermediate uprights and an extra 300mm to the overall height taking it to 900mm. Much safer and stronger.

Tomorrow I’ll start wet sanding and buffing the paintwork from last week.

Hope you will not badly take my comment as there is no bad intend, but there is something looking "strange" a the forward section of the rail. Not sure if it is the superposed U shape or the vertical posts that are not aligned, cannot exactly say why but looks "uncommon" to me or maybe just the pic, I don't know. Sorry I had to say it :D

So I collected the railing and took it to meet SOLSTICE. After that I installed the speakers and down lights then began sanding and machine polishing the paintwork in the aft cockpit

Haha awesome! Mate please show me anything on SOLSTICE that is “common” or not “strange” lol

The railing is strange just like it’s owner :)
Ok looking at the picture I think I know what grabbed my eyes. The vertical post on the forward section, upper and lower, does not look to be at the same angle (meaning not parallel), I think this is what triggered my comment. Not a critic about the amazing work just a comment. I guess I am a bit psycho about these thing but I am the kind of guy that cannot stand a paint not straightly hanged on the wall lol

Yeh I know what you mean. It’s like that because the another intermediates and legs are that angle. Hindsight I should have changed the angle to suit the leg it was closer to. The decision bothered us when we were making the railing but once it’s on the boat I won’t be looking at it so will leave it.

This afternoon I carried on with wet sanding and polishing to flatten out the orange peel. Looks good under fluro lights so think it will look awesome in natural light.

LOL! [emoji14]

Oh, I love to go swimming with bow legged women and swim between their legs, between their legs.

The above was sung on MASH.... It was a one sentence song.... Too bad no one finished the song. Definitely sound like the start of a wonderful WWII song from the UK.

This afternoon the painter shot on some grey jotun penguard hb primer to act as a binding coat. I’ll leave this for a week then rub it back and shoot colour on the 19th.

Inch by inch... step by step.... surely, confidently, thoroughly she gets made ready for SPLASH!!!

The ol postie dropped off 2 x 320W Sunpower solar panels for the boat today. They are massive panels - 1700mm x 1000mm x 45mm. I also got a SmartSolar Victron Energy MPPT 100/50 Charge Conroller with Bluetooth. This should take care of charging the batteries when the alternator isn’t running. Was half the price to buy them from a solar shop in Ballina NSW than it was to buy them here in Perth and that’s including postage!

Such a deal! Congrats!! :thumb:

Lookin' good Matt. I'm not on here as much since I sold Lotus, but keeping an eye on the place, and your build in particular. Just gotta see her in the water. Due to the need to adjust trim with ballast, etc, I don't expect you'll film the actual first splash, and rightly so. Just don't keep us waiting too long, puleese..? :D  :socool: :Thanx:
