Pretty stoked to be back at the boat today after burning the candle at both ends at work last week. This afternoon I rubbed back the epoxy resin with P600 ready for primer. Once that was all sorted I machine sanded the transom door with P600 then hand wet sanded with P800 in one direction then P1500 in the other in a crosshatch pattern with graphite guide coat in between each grade so as to not miss anything. Tomorrow I’ll hit it with the cut and polish and machine it up to a mirror.

Epoxy primer applied then the transom door was machine cut then polished and fitted to the boat. Looks the goods ?

Hmmmm, would be better if the lower edge of the door was another inch higher to allow water in the cockpit to drain faster but, it's your boat.

Don’t envisage too much water in there since the whole aft cockpit will be enclosed with canvas. I have two cockpit drains that I may fit later on down the track

My AT has about a 2 inch gap at the bottom of the door to allow water to escape much faster than drains.
 
Alrighty so the whole Starboard side of the topcoat on the hull from the chine to the gunwale is now all machine sanded with P600 grit paper so to is the transom and the port side from the chine to the midrail. I’ll sand the remainder from the mid rail up to the gunwale when I move the ewp over. Tomorrow I’ll wash it all down and begin hand sanding the Starboard side with P1200 and P1500 ready for machine cutting and final polish.

Enclosed cockpit

I will renew the canvas after hurricane season this year. I will add side curtains because the newly rewritten rules specifically say, "Dan, you cant hang your wet laundry outside any more."
Do I hang it out after dark and bring it in before the sun comes up. I own 2 slips, approx value close to $600,000, and I have an attitude of "screw you." I put a chair out near my dock box with the intent to allow the elderly to sit and recover as they walked. I was told by, one busy body, "We have had complaints about your chair." I told her point blank, "Tell them, go to hell." That woman almost swallowed her tongue. She was not prepared for that answer. LOL In other words, the woman who would be Queen of the condo complex, took it upon herself to be the "they".

After sanding is complete... do you do "wax-on / wax-off"? Or, does the paint/finish maintain it's own luster for years with no need for waxing?

No mate she’ll be fine and hold the gloss however I will keep the wax up to her and give her a machine polish during her annual haul out
 
This afternoon I had a helper and we applied some graphite guide coat to the machine sanded surface then we wet hand sanded with P800 grit paper. We powered through it and almost finished the starboard side from the gunwale to the midrail. Next step is to reapply the guide coat and rub the same section with P1500 grit paper till the paint is clear then machine to a mirror shine.

A lot of work - A lot of beauty being revealed. SOLSTICE will will be one of the most beautiful babies ever to grace the 7 Seas!
 
My mate is back giving me a hand to get back on track and today we did a great job. The graphite guide coat powder was applied to the P800 grit sanded surface we did on Monday then we began hand sanding it with P1500 grit. Sanding direction was changed 45° to the way we went on Monday to help identify any imperfections during the sanding process. Even tho I haven’t begun machine cutting or machine polishing yet there is an awesome shine starting to appear and I’m so happy to see how she’s turning out.

It’s actually quite therapeutic mate. I’ve done some of my best thinking and issue resolution while sanding too. Hard to describe. Maybe it should read The Mentally Deranged lol
 
The Starboard side is all rubbed back by hand with P1500 grit and is now ready for machine cutting and machine polishing and waxing but before I do I need to move across and repeat this process on the Port side, the transom and the swim platform.
