Netbook running Polar View and Standard Horizon running C-Map at the lower helm. When I pilot from the Flybridge I just move the SH up there. Once in a blue moon I will take the netbook up there as well. I also have a cable wired in the dingy so I can take the SH there as well. If you ever see me doing 30knts in the water you will know why:eek:

One of the easier Albemarle crossings I've done. Going down vs coming back

My 120.always steamed some. I always figured it was the water lift muffler. the cooler it was the more it seem to smoke. I accumulated 1500 hours with never a problem of course you know your boat so I'm assuming this is a new problem for you

Hey Daddyo, you have some great water to cruise in there on the East coast. I'm amazed at t.he flat water I see.

As soon as I leave the LA Light it's show time here. Just an occasional flat sea.

I'm jealous

When it's good it's really good. When it's bad well you better hold on. Lot's of shallows means really steep confused seas. Think of putting your boat in a clothes washer:eek:

Leaving the North River and entering the Currituck Sound as friendly as I've seen her:thumb:

A lot of delivery captains all of a sudden. Man they're in a hurry! I thought I was moving? :)

In the past on Marinetraffic, I've been able to look at track covering the past 7 days. For the past two days, I've only been able to get the current day's track. Am I missing something? Very interested becuase my brother just bought a place on the SC/NC border and we've been trying to figure out how long it would take for us to head down there in the boat - we are about 2 days north of Norfolk.

6 days

2 to Norfolk
2 to Morehead
2 to SC

5 days if the weather is nice and you're very type A

Thanks - that is about what I figured, with long days and good weather. Just a tad bit too far for a two week vacation - doesn't make sense to rush all the way down there just to turn around and head home. Well, at least we can do the trip in one long day each way with the car . . . We are planning to do the Norfolk/Dismal miniloop later this summer.

Saw you doing about that, but over Long Island roads, just after your Sandy fun and games.

Speed just went to zero. Zoomed in on Marinetraffic and it looks like he is in the lock at Great Bridge Lock Park. Very cool to watch all this in real time.

EDIT - also meant to add that this crowed sourced crusing seems like a pretty good idea, given all the current local knowedge that is being shared on this board. That and knowing there are eyes on you in the event of problems. Even better than Active Captain, if you asked me.

I think that is more like the following for most folks
2 to Norfolk
3 to Morehead
2-3 to NC/SC

I think you were looking at me sitting in the lock. I've got some cool pics to post tonight. Nomada the steel trawler featured in Passegemaker is with me now.

Nomada is a steel tug hull with the superstructure added. I believe the house is aluminum if I remember correctly. She was the cover shot of a Passage Maker not long ago. You have to appreciate those North Sea lines. The green trawler in the marina is steel and designed by Jay Benford who designed the Florida Bay Coasters. The other shots are the Great Bridge Lock (only lock on the ICW) and Norfolk, home base of the Atlantic Fleet and the largest Naval Shipyard in the world.
